~ Framed 17th Century (c1640) Embroidery Of Courting Scene ~ A stunning 17th century (c1640) embroidery of padded figures with worked in silks & cotton/linen and employs a multitude of embroidery techniques.The fine piece depicts a courting couple within an eidetic landscape of deer, sea coral, frogs, butterflies, fish, rabbits and exotic fruits. We believe this to be an English piece because of the prominent Leopard in the lower left – a London hallmark symbol since 1300, the castle in the upper left also bears resemblance to the Tower of London. The piece is set within a sage green mount and is framed into a black frame with a gilt border around the glass. The frame would date to around 1830.~ Dimensions ~The frame measures 17.5 inches (44.5cm) by 16.5 inches (42cm).The embroidery itself is 10.75 inches (27.5cm) wide by 9 inches (23cm) tall.~ Condition ~The piece is uncleaned with some fading, principally to the reds.
